If you have purchased a new mobile device, you must transfer your Multi-Factor Authorisation (MFA) settings to ensure continued access to Dublin City University (DCU) services.
Note: For Personal (BYOD) devices, ensure your device is connected to eduroam for optimal performance and authentication during the installation process.
Restore from a Backup
If you have previously configured a backup of your credentials, you can follow the MFA Restore Instructions to recover your account on the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Transfer MFA Using an Existing Device
Use these steps if you still have access to your old phone to authorise the transfer.
- Using a laptop or PC, log into your Staff or Student Apps (Dublin City University) Microsoft Account.
- Authenticate using MFA on your old device.
- Select Add sign-in method and choose Microsoft Authenticator.
- A prompt will appear on your computer screen to install the app on your new device. Click Next.
- On your new device, download the Microsoft Authenticator app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
- On your computer screen, select Next to display the QR code.
- Open the app, select Add account, and choose Work or School account and use your new device to scan the QR code displayed on the computer screen. This connects the app to your account.
- When complete, click Next on your computer.
- Complete the verification process on your new device to confirm that MFA is now set up correctly.
Remove Old Device
- Log into your Staff or Student Apps (Dublin City University) Microsoft Account and from the Security info section delete the device that is no longer required.
- Test Your New Setup: Log out and log back in to ensure your MFA is functioning correctly on the new device.
